The Google Page Rank Dilemma

Every webmaster at some point or the other gets a minor [or sometimes major] obsession with their Google pagerank [PR]

And we lose so many hours of sleep tweaking and checking and rechecking it, like PR is going to change overnight!

But what is PR all about and more important, 'how does page rank affect the most important aspects of your website's success?' Which, by the way, are 'targetted traffic' and 'conversions'

PR is a number that Google allocates to your website to indicate how important they think your site is. Now there are a lot of factors that go into generating rank for you site
Unfortunately, or fortunately, Google keeps most of this a big secret

Does higher page rank automatically mean more traffic? I think not. In my experience I have had page rank 4 webpages get less traffic than page rank 1 websites. It seems not to make any sense at all but I have found this often on my sites. Yes page rank is of some importance but the thing we need to concentrate on is our webpage's position in the search engine pages for your chosen keyword. It is good search engine position that drives targetted traffic to your site

Is PR totally pointless then?
Certainly not. Page rank is very important for a few reasons

1.If you are planning to sell links from your site, the higher the Pagerank of the webpage you intend to put their link on, the higher the price you can ask for it. Now to my mind, this seems like a pointless activity as it would appear that Google penalizes sites that sell [or buy] links

2.If you plan to flip websites, ie build them and sell them off, then obviously increasing PR should be a major preoccupation of yours.

For the rest of us, increasing website traffic by good search engine optimization is the way to go.[More info at http://www.affiliatemarketingintro.com/Search-Engine-Optimization-Backlinks.html]

You will notice as you focus on building your content and backlinks to your site, that your PR will go up. Just give it time
